The mission statement of The Tiburon International Film Festival says it all: “To understand the world through the common language of film.” This splendid notion is well illustrated by the festival’s 2008 selections, which celebrate independent films from all over the globe. The brainchild of festival founder Saeed Shafa, the Tiburon International Film Festival (TIFF) is a vivid testimonial to the concept that film is truly the world’s international language. The 2008 TIFF runs through the Friday, March 21, presenting 225 films from 94 countries. To put together this year’s slate of offerings Shafa personally viewed over 3,000 films, and his hard work and dedication are evident in the diversity of the program, with which he has created a marvelous celebration of international cinema.
